system design based on UK Building Regulations Approved Document F (2021 Edition, England). The sheet is for Airflow Developments Group and uses their Entro-V MVHR unit range and AirflexPro ducting system. IMPORTANT: There is NO individual room floor area input. All ventilation calculations are based only on total floor area and number of bedrooms. SHEET 1 — PROJECT DETAILS Simple input fields for: Project Name, Reference Number, Design Engineer, Date, Build Type (New Build or Retrofit). These should link automatically to all other sheets. SHEET 2 — INPUT & CALCULATIONS This is the main working sheet. It has two sections: Section A — User Inputs (blue highlighted cells, user types here only): Total internal floor area in m² (this is the entire dwelling — all floors combined, not individual rooms) Number of bedrooms (whole number, 1 to 6+) Number of kitchens (typically 1) Kitchen extract type — dropdown: "Cooker hood extracting to outside" or "No cooker hood / recirculating" Number of bathrooms and en-suites Number of utility rooms Number of WC / sanitary rooms (WC only, no bath or shower) Airtightness — dropdown: "Highly Airtight" or "Less Airtight" Build type — dropdown: "New Build" or "Retrofit" Section B — Automatic Calculations (formula cells, no user input): The spreadsheet must calculate the following automatically using only the inputs above: Whole-Dwelling Ventilation Rate (supply air): Calculate two values and take the larger one as the governing rate: Value 1: Total floor area × 0.3 litres per second per m². So if floor area is 100m², this gives 30 l/s. Value 2: Based on number of bedrooms using this fixed scale — 1 bedroom = 19 l/s, 2 bedrooms = 25 l/s, 3 bedrooms = 31 l/s, 4 bedrooms = 37 l/s, 5 bedrooms = 43 l/s. For each bedroom beyond 5, add 6 l/s. So the formula is: if bedrooms is 1 then 19, otherwise 13 + (bedrooms × 6). Cap sensibly for large dwellings. The governing whole-dwelling rate = the larger of these two values. Label it clearly. This is the minimum continuous supply rate the MVHR unit must deliver. Reference: Approved Document F Table 1.3 and paragraph 1.24. Extract Ventilation Rates (wet rooms — continuous system, Table 1.2): For each wet room type, multiply the quantity entered by the high rate from Table 1.2: Kitchen: 13 l/s each (regardless of whether hood extracts outside — the continuous rate is 13 l/s per Table 1.2) Bathroom / en-suite: 8 l/s each Utility room: 8 l/s each WC / sanitary accommodation: 6 l/s each Calculate a total extract rate by summing all wet room extracts. Note: The sum of all continuous extract rates must be at least equal to the whole-dwelling ventilation rate from Table 1.3. Design Flow Rate for Unit Selection: Take the larger of (whole-dwelling supply rate) and (total extract rate). This single number is what determines which MVHR unit is needed. SHEET 3 — MVHR UNIT SELECTION Based on the design flow rate calculated in Sheet 2, automatically recommend the correct Airflow Entro-V unit using these thresholds: If design flow rate is 67.2 l/s or below → recommend DV65 Entro-V (SKU: 90001243) If design flow rate is above 67.2 and up to 83.3 l/s → recommend DV82 Entro-V (SKU: 90001244) If design flow rate is above 83.3 and up to 127.7 l/s → recommend DV130 Entro-V (SKU: 90001245) If design flow rate exceeds 127.7 l/s → flag as "Contact Airflow — exceeds single unit capacity" For the recommended unit, display: Model name SKU Maximum flow rate Heat recovery efficiency (greater than 85% for all units) Energy rating (DV65 is A+, DV82 and DV130 are A rated) A clear SUITABLE or NOT SUITABLE status SHEET 4 — AIRFLEXPRO DUCTING BILL OF MATERIALS (BOM) This is an estimated BOM. It should calculate quantities automatically based on the number of wet rooms (extract points) and the number of bedrooms plus living areas (supply points). Assume the following for supply points: number of bedrooms plus 2 (for living room and dining or study). So a 3-bedroom house would have 5 supply terminals. The AirflexPro system uses 75mm semi-rigid radial ducting. Every supply room and every extract room needs its own individual duct run back to a central distribution box. This is a radial system — not a loop. Colour coding rule: supply air duct is BLUE, extract air duct is RED. This must be stated clearly in the BOM. Calculate and list the following components with SKUs and estimated quantities: MVHR Unit: 1 × Airflow Entro-V unit (model auto-filled from Sheet 3, SKU auto-filled from Sheet 3) Main Duct (between unit and distribution boxes): These are larger diameter rigid ducts (125mm or 160mm). Assume 2 main duct runs — one supply and one extract — each approximately 3 metres long as a default estimate. Flag this as "verify on site." AirflexPro 75mm Supply Duct (Blue): SKU: 90001379 Quantity: one roll per supply terminal. Number of supply terminals = number of bedrooms + 2. Each roll covers approximately 25 metres. Estimate 5 metres of duct per terminal as a default run length. So total duct length = (bedrooms + 2) × 5 metres. Number of rolls = round up (total length divided by 25). AirflexPro 75mm Extract Duct (Red): SKU: 9041130 Quantity: one roll per extract terminal. Number of extract terminals = total number of wet rooms (kitchens + bathrooms + utility rooms + WCs). Estimate 4 metres per extract run. Total length = total wet rooms × 4. Rolls = round up (total divided by 25). Supply Distribution Box (manifold): SKU: 90001380 Quantity: 1 per floor of the dwelling. Default to 1 if single storey, 2 if two or more storeys. Each box handles multiple 75mm branches from one 125mm main duct. Extract Distribution Box (manifold): SKU: 90001381 Quantity: same logic as supply — 1 per floor. Supply Ceiling/Wall Plenum (terminal grille for habitable rooms): SKU: 90000250 Quantity: 1 per supply terminal = number of bedrooms + 2. Extract Wall Plenum (terminal for wet rooms): SKU: 9041141 Quantity: 1 per extract terminal = total wet rooms. 75mm Elbows (90 degree): SKU: 9041139 Quantity: estimate 2 elbows per duct run (supply and extract). Total = (supply terminals + extract terminals) × 2. 75mm Straight Connectors: SKU: 9041132 Quantity: estimate 1 per duct run. Total = supply terminals + extract terminals. AirflexPro Round Clips — Red, pack of 10: SKU: 90000580 Quantity: estimate 3 clips per duct run. Total clips needed = (supply terminals + extract terminals) × 3. Packs = round up (total clips divided by 10). External Wall Cowl / Grille (inlet and outlet): Quantity: 2 (one fresh air inlet, one exhaust outlet). SKU: confirm with Airflow — note this in the BOM. Flexible Duct for final connections (maximum 1.5m per connection per Building Regulations paragraph 1.77): Quantity: 1 short piece per terminal. Total terminals = supply + extract terminals. State that each piece must be pulled taut and secured with jubilee clips per paragraph 1.78. Add a note at the bottom of the BOM stating: "This is an estimated BOM based on assumed duct run lengths. Actual quantities must be verified against the site layout and duct routing drawing. All AirflexPro supply duct is colour coded BLUE and all extract duct is colour coded RED. Flexible duct must not exceed 1.5m per connection (Approved Document F paragraph 1.77). Contact your Airflow Area Sales Manager to confirm the final BOM and pricing." SHEET 5 — PART F COMPLIANCE SUMMARY A simple checklist that auto-populates from the calculations. system design based on UK Building Regulations Approved Document F (2021 Edition, England). Contact your Airflow Area Sales Manager to confirm the final BOM and pricing."
